Pomegranate

Aims

  • Identification, evaluation and valorization of interesting pomegranate genotypes. Evaluation in situ, collection, reservation and characterization (morphologically, chemically and yield) ex situ of interesting genotypes. Our pomegranate collection contains 26 genotypes.
  • Organize and participate in pomegranate tree growing training.

Main Results

  • Twenty interesting pomegranate genotypes were collected from different areas in Greece and evaluated in our collection at Naoussa. Results from the morphological characterization are on the following data bank http://www1.unifi.it/ueresgen29/. Apart from the morphological characterisation, pomegranate genotypes were characterised for resistance to frost, cracking potential, fruit physical and chemical characteristics.
  • Kallisti and Andromachi are the two new cultivars produced, having interesting characteristics such as soft seeds and resistance to cracking, respectively.
